Making 2024 Your Best Year Yet | For Families Who Have A Loved One with a Disability

December 21, 2023

I recently had a coaching call with the incredible families who are part of my Empowering Ability (EA) Club membership, which is my highest level program. Month after month, these families consistently make progress in preparing their loved ones with disabilities for independence and an Awesome Ordinary Life.

During the coaching call, I asked a family about what made them successful, and something incredible happened. They shared their thoughts, and then more families joined the conversation—one after the other. What caught my attention was that EVERY single one of these families was using the same three (3) strategies to steadily make progress with their loved ones.

And I’m excited to share these 3 strategies with you, so that you can make 2024 the best year yet for your family.

3 Key Strategies for Your Success in 2024:

1. Persistence: Not giving up is second nature to you, but here’s the catch—use your persistence with intention! Pause, reflect, and craft a strategic Life Plan to nurture your loved one’s independence. If your current efforts feel stuck, consider learning new approaches through a podcast, like the Empowering Ability Podcast, or a course like my Life Plan Coaching Program to rejuvenate your approach.

2. Patience for Your Loved One’s Pace: Rome wasn’t built in a day. Focus on the small steps weekly; the grand goal of independence will come slowly over time. Embrace patience, align your pace with your loved one’s, and recognize the importance of small, steady steps.

3. Embrace Positivity: Caregiver burnout is real, and the challenges can be overwhelming. But maintaining a positive outlook is crucial. Celebrate the small wins—each step forward, no matter how small.

A short while ago, I connected with families in my Empowering Ability Club, a close-knit community of individuals who’ve completed my Life Plan Coaching Program. These families, some of whom I’ve been assisting for up to four years, gathered for a live Zoom call. Together, we discussed the ongoing progress they’re making towards creating an awesome ordinary life for their loved ones.

Out of our shared conversation emerged three key strategies that have consistently propelled these families forward. Let me unveil these keys to you.

Key 1: Persistence with Intention: When you’re supporting a loved one with a developmental disability, persistence becomes second nature. But here’s the catch—use persistence with intention. Pause, reflect, and craft a strategic plan to nurture your loved one’s independence. If your current efforts feel stuck, consider learning new approaches through a podcast or a course like my Life Plan Coaching Program to rejuvenate your approach.

Key 2: Patience for Your Loved One’s Pace: Rome wasn’t built in a day. Focus on the small steps weekly; the grand goal of independence will come slowly over time. Embrace patience, align your pace with your loved one’s, and recognize the importance of small, steady steps.

Key 3: Embrace Positivity: Caregiver burnout is real, and the challenges can be overwhelming. But maintaining a positive outlook is crucial. Celebrate the small wins—each step forward, no matter how small. By fostering a positive mindset, you’ll create a momentum that propels you and your loved one forward.

As we approach 2024, I invite you to adopt these three mindsets: persistence, patience, and positivity. Utilize them intentionally, directing your energy strategically. Stay committed to progress, consider learning opportunities, and perhaps explore joining our Life Plan coaching program.
